In early 2005, by word-of-mouth, a small group of women came together, meeting in someone's home, to participate in a group that would provide weekly activities they could do with their children and a social setting for themselves. This group was made up of a variety of women who came from all different backgrounds and cultures. There were young mothers, older mothers, new mothers, and experienced mothers. But, they had two very important things in common: they had chosen to be stay-at-home mothers and they were looking for a support network for themselves and their children. After experimenting with different ways to run the group, it was decided that the goals of the organization would be to provide mothers a network of support through community involvement, support programs, and social activities for mothers, children, and families. The group would work with businesses and other area community organizations in an effort to create and support activities and projects geared toward enriching the lives of its members and their children, as well as area children and their families. The ultimate goal of the group is to provide mothers a place to participate in social activities, receive help, support, and a sanity break! After spending so many days "trooping" around town, en masse, with a horde of children in our wake, this "group" became the Troop and somehow formed a "family". With the support of membership dues and paid advertisers, the organization provides a monthly calendar of fantastic activities and events, outreach support programs, a monthly newsletter, and hosts its own website, www.themomstroop.org |
